P2 Guided Challenging Maths Examination Papers by James Kuwe

This was a book that I liked because of its difficulty and of course one that Minion Slog 1 really loathed

It was with great reluctance that she finally completed the book at the end of primary 3 and even then she had mistakes peppered throughout the book. I would say there is nothing guided about the questions and perhaps the author means that the answer sheets providing the solutions equates guidance.

This is an assessment book that can only be done after the child has mastered, if not finished, the p2 curriculum as the book consists of seven examination papers complete with section A, B and C.

Minion Slogs 1 and 2 have not done any of those past year school examinations bundles thus far but I dare say that this books’ papers did give Minion Slog 1 a thorough workout and I am pleased enough with the quality of the questions

Introduction to The Slogs

What on earth is a slog, one might wonder, given that slog is a verb rather than a noun. In fact, if one were to google, the definition of slog is to work hard over a long period of time. Perhaps then it now becomes clear that we, the self-named “slogs” are those who toil.  To be precise, we, The Slogs in this blog are an immediate family of four with the parents entrenched in the grind of hustling for the family (Papa Slog, Mama Slog) and two mini Slogs (Slog 1 and Slog 2) being school-going children.  As it is said that a picture speaks a thousand words, I present you with, for the purposes of self introduction, a picture drawn of The Slogs by Slog 2. This picture was drawn several weeks ago before this blog was started so it might not be wrong to say that it can be said to be a rather accurate albeit unflattering one of The Slogs (especially of Mama Slog) This blog is written by Mama Slog (aka Helicopter Slog) with the occasional input from the mini Slogs (aka Minion ...

Sin Heng Kee Porridge

It is well known that Sin Heng Kee undoubtedly serves up one of the most ingredient-filled delicious porridge in Singapore. In fact, if one were to google best porridge in Singapore, Sin Heng Kee would undoubtedly pop up on the list. Papa Slog is no porridge fan but after his first bowl, he has become quite the convert. We buy from the Hougang stall very frequently now and there is almost always a queue. If one wants to eat there, that can be an even bigger challenge because there are a limited number of tables and a hot piping bowl of porridge isn’t a meal that can be quickly consumed. Further, most of the patrons are elderly folks which will not be hurried to move along This is the interior of the shop. After one joins the queue to order (and the staff will usually ask if one wants to take away or eat in while one is queuing), one will then be given a number. Mama Slog usually crosses the road to do some grocery shopping if the queue number is about 20+ numbers away from the one show...

One of the best fresh fish soup

When even a fish supplier tells you that the best fish soup they have ever tasted is First Street Teochew Fish Soup, you know you are on to something good. Mama Slog’s own mother, Grandma Slog introduced this stall along Upper Serangoon Road to her more than a decade ago. Despite the challenge of finding parking given the very limited number of parallel parking lots along the side of the road, this fish soup store is one that the Mama Slog frequented almost weekly three years ago. Then, the prices were more reasonable and the stall was helmed by the old man himself with his younger son serving early in the morning. Now, the business has been sold/franchised and the food tastes somehow different. Even the outlook of the store (as well as the chefs) has changed - where it used to occupy just one stall, it has now expanded to take up two stalls.  In any case, a large bowl of batang soup with a bowl of rice costs close to $10. There is a decent amount of fish slices in the bowl a...
