I ordered “About Science Home Practice Primary 3/4” by Manisha Nayak because it appeared on my Amazon feed when I was searching for science assessment books i.e it had not been a book recommended to me.

Nonetheless, it proved to be one of the books that the Minion Slogs both managed to finished this year because it was one of the more engaging ones.

For example, it has crossword puzzles for every chapter. And for parents who like tearing out pages of assessment books, this book has pages which are very easily torn out (dotted line on the left hand side). This makes it easy for the child to do one particular chapter for science as opposed to folding pages in a book .

As you can see from a snapshot of the picture below, the questions are well presented to a child and also easy to understand. The Minions actually enjoy doing the book because it is one of the easiest and shortest (for each chapter) ones that they have.

Mama Slog’s view: Doing this book alone would not be sufficient to do very well for science as a subject in lower primary as it only covers the basics. If you are minded to buy this book, it is better to have other books

Sin Heng Kee Porridge

It is well known that Sin Heng Kee undoubtedly serves up one of the most ingredient-filled delicious porridge in Singapore. In fact, if one were to google best porridge in Singapore, Sin Heng Kee would undoubtedly pop up on the list. Papa Slog is no porridge fan but after his first bowl, he has become quite the convert. We buy from the Hougang stall very frequently now and there is almost always a queue. If one wants to eat there, that can be an even bigger challenge because there are a limited number of tables and a hot piping bowl of porridge isn’t a meal that can be quickly consumed. Further, most of the patrons are elderly folks which will not be hurried to move along This is the interior of the shop. After one joins the queue to order (and the staff will usually ask if one wants to take away or eat in while one is queuing), one will then be given a number. One of the best fresh fish soup

When even a fish supplier tells you that the best fish soup they have ever tasted is First Street Teochew Fish Soup, you know you are on to something good. Mama Slog’s own mother, Grandma Slog introduced this stall along Upper Serangoon Road to her more than a decade ago. Despite the challenge of finding parking given the very limited number of parallel parking lots along the side of the road, this fish soup store is one that the Mama Slog frequented almost weekly three years ago. Then, the prices were more reasonable and the stall was helmed by the old man himself with his younger son serving early in the morning. Now, the business has been sold/franchised and the food tastes somehow different. Even the outlook of the store (as well as the chefs) has changed - where it used to occupy just one stall, it has now expanded to take up two stalls.
